Caleb did GREAT with the braces. His PT came over twice yesterday (first time the shoes didn't work so Caleb and I went out and had 10 different pairs of shoes here for the 2nd visit -- we wanted it over with :).. I kept receipts). When she first put them on she prepared me that Caleb was further along walking wise than we thought he'd be so he'd go backwards b/f forward and don't expect steps right away.... he had to get used to the braces. Caleb of-course grabbed miss Shellis hands (speech therapist here for our reg weekly apt) and walked! He did great.
Since he is already taking steps on his own Caroline (PT) decided we had to skip the warm up period; do 1.5 hours on .5 hour off all day today then by end of week be at first thing on last thing off. I thought Caleb would be fussy but he did so good and had them on for almost 5 hours total today! he was a little more needy than usual as he is getting tripped up on his own feet but that should go away with time. The poor kid went from hardly ever wearing shoes and when he did he was a size 4.5 to 5 to wearing a size 7 (which is what he need with the braces).
The braces themselves are NOTHING like we imagined. they are essentially shoe inserts that come just a little bit higher on the ankle then the shoes...so much better than the picture I had in my head and... Nick was picturing Forest Gump braces so... much much better than what he was picturing.
Pics of my baby boy turned toddler (I think the big shoes make him look huge) are below.
Caleb - exploring his shoes; by the end of the day he had figured out how to put the toe of the tennis shoe in his mouth while still on.....
