Caleb's good News!

Nick & I are having champagne in honor of….Caleb’s good news!

4 of his 5 doctors had a conference call today with one other specialist also on and… it was agreed that Caleb is a normal, healthy, happy kid! We are done with test and procedures & the alarms will be taken away gradually over the next month! The meds will take a little longer; although the cocktail parties are getting much much less variety in them these days (which means less meds :)

You may be wondering why Caleb was a topic of a conference call with all of these specialist….long story short its b/c he is so happy, healthy & “normal” on the outside but we know he has these issues on the inside that he just needs to grow out of. Well today, they decided that he has obviously grown of them much faster than anyone thought he would and b/c he is so obviously happy we are done treating him like a sick kid. He doesn’t have to go through any test to prove he is ok… he is telling us he is OK. He is now almost nine months old and they all thought we’d be in and out of the hospital for the first couple years of his life but since they diagnosed and we started treating him at 2 ½ months we have yet to make a return visit!

This means we just continue w/ his therapies, make sure speech stays involved (for swallowing) and let Caleb work out the little issues he still has lingering , because he has proven to all of us that he can!!!

Our little boy is sooo strong, on paper this kid should be hooked up to a machine to breath and eat but in reality he has always shown his doctors (and us) he is OK, and somehow, someway he can handle it; so while it made them nervous we just worked through it and now… He is ok, we will still see the specialist for check-ups; I don’t think they are quite ready to release him but I’d guess another few months and hopefully we stop the regular visits and are down to an as –needed basis :)
