As a mom, the scariest moment of my life was when Caleb was 6 weeks old, HR got up to 300, DR's, nurses taking care of him, CRASH CART waiting outside the door. It was like I was watching the whole thing, and I still replay it many of the times we pass by or go to the hospital. Well, as a mom you also like to think that those really scary moments for you, aren't as bad as they seem to everyone else.
I sort of got a reality check last night when Caleb got checked into the hospital. It was no big deal, we just got admitted overnight b/c he's been coughing nonstop and at the Pulm office she decided he needed a few back to back treatments of the adult does of breathing meds for asthma, well you are supposed to only get these at the age of two, if you are being monitored at a hospital so...off the three of us went (by EMS transport) from the Dr. office in fishers to the hospital.
The reality check part came when both the nurse and the doctor last night remembered us down to the room we were in by the HR episode. I'm sure it aided the memory that my sister works at the hospital (in the ER) and I look like her (obviously) but they remembered the room and the incident and neither were or nurse or dr that stay almost 2.5 yrs ago. The nurse, I'm not sure how she was involved, but many many people were so I'm sure she was. The doc I do remember as she was the first MD to the scene and I'll never forget her looking at the others as they arrived and saying "this is real" meaning the HR really was 300. Many times since, many people have hypothizied and said it was reading something else, it was high but not that high, he's alive, etc... but the people in the room still know and said then it was 300 and the DR even told Caleb he was allowed to have a tachy HR last night, and likely would from all the high doses of meds but he better not even think of getting back up to 300! It was kind-of my reality, you better be grateful you have a healthy son and who cares if you are in the hospital overnight for asthma, that is treatable, it might not be the best timing but really, its not the end of the world, he has good docs and they make MANY meds to repair the lungs...plus he's still under 5 (many drs theorize, you can fix the lungs up to this age and childhood asthama can also go away prior to this age) moment.
So.... YES.... 3 days after my gall bladder was removed Caleb was admitted, kind-of ironic since i've never had surgery then 3 days after my c-section (1st of my life) Erica needs to say a few more days in the hospital then 3 days after this (2nd surgery of my life)...Caleb has to go but he's fine, the meds helped. We have a good plan of how to finish getting him over this sinus / asthma / allergy thing going on and we have a plan to figure out what the heck he is allergic too in about 4 weeks!. I guess life isn't allowed to be low key for me but I'm really really hoping we get there soon. I have faith we will :). Stay turned next week for some updated pics of Erica (I've been so bad with the camera) and cross your fingers, a post that says her kidney issues are 100% behind us (repeat U/S is Thurs)
